As September ends and all things October and Fall begin, this recipe is a must if you love spiced desserts. It is perfect for those cozy, autumn days. If you haven't down so already, it's time to break out the allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon and get to baking some delicious desserts that give you all the warm and fuzzy feelings. To my northern friends and family... I envy you during this time of year. Enjoy your sweater weather, bonfires and the smell of the crisp, calm air. To all my fellow Florida people... let's just continue to brave the hurricane season, wear our sweaters like we're not slowly dying under them and drinking our Pumpkin cold brews (or whatever your fall drink of choice may be) because drinking hot Fall lattes will make us melt even more. It's fine. We're fine. Everything's fine.
(Disclaimer: I am using an image that is not a real photo of my dessert, but this is what I would imagine it would look like if I had the materials and means to stage everything. One day I will! We are slowly working on our space and supplies for food photography. I just wanted to say this so you don't think we are cheating you! All of that being said, we should understand that food doesn't have to look perfect in order to enjoy it. Having it look pretty adds to the experience, but it really just needs to be delicious!)
Now, let's get to business!

This cozy Spiced Pear and Apple Crumble Crisp is a warm and inviting dessert that brings the essence of fall to your table. Juicy, ripe golden pears and gala apples mingle with fragrant spices and are topped with a buttery, brown sugar crumbly crust mixture. Finish it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, extra fruit slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Spiced Pear & Apple Crumble Crisp
Your Ingredients
Filling
1 medium golden pears, diced
4 gala apples, diced
1 medium lemon, juiced
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp pure maple syrup
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
2 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp allspice
2 tbsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp Himalayan salt
Topping
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups salted butter, cold, diced
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/8 tsp Himalayan salt
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel and dice the fruit into small to medium sized pieces and add to a mixing bowl with the lemon juice. Add in the brown sugar, maple syrup and vanilla extract and combine together with the fruit. Next, add the salt and spices and stir well. Set to the side for 10-15 minutes so the flavors can soak into the fruit.
While the fruit is sitting, prepare the crumble topping. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt, brown sugar and cinnamon together. Stir until the sugar and spice are well distributed throughout the flour. Then add the cold, diced butter and vanilla. Using your hands, work the butter into the flour until it becomes a crumbly consistency.
Grease a 9" x 13" baking dish. Add the fruit filling to the pan and flatten out. Add the crumbly mixture on top until the fruit is covered. (If you think you need more topping, make the crumble pieces smaller or just add a bit more flour and butter.)
Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. Take the pan out and add the pecans on top of the dessert. Turn the oven broiler on LOW and broil the dessert for 1-2 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
Serve with vanilla ice cream and and enjoy!
Notes:
Add some extra pear or apple slices on top for garnish.
Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar or sweetener used in this recipe. Personally, I prefer desserts to be less sweet. However, my family has more of a sweet tooth than I do so I make things they will enjoy.
